Our Story

When the 2020 pandemic hit and students missed in-person school, we worried about the impact on social skills. We gathered a group of 6th graders to form a backyard improv circle.  Our group met weekly for 2 years.  The students played drama games and blossomed during a time of isolation.  It was during these playful garden sessions that the seed for Out of the Hat Improv was planted.

The original improv circle returned in-person to public middle school as 8th graders.  These students went on to thrive in school, perform in live theater and remain close friends.

In the summer of 2022, we offered the first session of Out of the Hat Improv camp.
